looked at my kingdom, I was finally there

I called and got in the queue for inauguration tickets. I'm going regardless although being on the white house lawn would fucking rock my life.

Lou and I want to go early so we can sneak off to the Shakespeare Museum (NERD ALERT!) and I've got some people up at Howard that I'd love to see. I feel as though this potential road trip might turn into something big.

also, I am protesting Prop 8 on saturday. Hopefully fighting injustice will help take my mind of being fucked over at work. Pictures to follow.

Feminists unite

I dreamt last night that she was a member of a club where they rode snowmobiles and wore the claws of drowned and starved polar bears around their necks. I have a particular thing for Polar Bears. Maybe it's their snowy whiteness or their bigness or the fact that they live in the arctic or that I have never seen one in person or touched one. Maybe it is the fact that they live so comfortably on ice. Whatever it is, I need the polar bears.

I don't like raging at women. I am a Feminist and have spent my life trying to build community, help empower women and stop violence against them. It is hard to write about Sarah Palin. This is why the Sarah Palin choice was all the more insidious and cynical. The people who made this choice count on the goodness and solidarity of Feminists.

But everything Sarah Palin believes in and practices is antithetical to Feminism which for me is part of one story -- connected to saving the earth, ending racism, empowering women, giving young girls options, opening our minds, deepening tolerance, and ending violence and war.

I believe that the McCain/Palin ticket is one of the most dangerous choices of my lifetime, and should this country chose those candidates the fall-out may be so great, the destruction so vast in so many areas that America may never recover. But what is equally disturbing is the impact that duo would have on the rest of the world. Unfortunately, this is not a joke. In my lifetime I have seen the clownish, the inept, the bizarre be elected to the presidency with regularity.

Sarah Palin does not believe in evolution. I take this as a metaphor. In her world and the world of Fundamentalists nothing changes or gets better or evolves. She does not believe in global warming. The melting of the arctic, the storms that are destroying our cities, the pollution and rise of cancers, are all part of God's plan. She is fighting to take the polar bears off the endangered species list. The earth, in Palin's view, is here to be taken and plundered. The wolves and the bears are here to be shot and plundered. The oil is here to be taken and plundered. Iraq is here to be taken and plundered. As she said herself of the Iraqi war, "It was a task from God."

Sarah Palin does not believe in abortion. She does not believe women who are raped and incested and ripped open against their will should have a right to determine whether they have their rapist's baby or not.

She obviously does not believe in sex education or birth control. I imagine her daughter was practicing abstinence and we know how many babies that makes.

Sarah Palin does not much believe in thinking. From what I gather she has tried to ban books from the library, has a tendency to dispense with people who think independently. She cannot tolerate an environment of ambiguity and difference. This is a woman who could and might very well be the next president of the United States. She would govern one of the most diverse populations on the earth.

Sarah believes in guns. She has her own custom Austrian hunting rifle. She has been known to kill 40 caribou at a clip. She has shot hundreds of wolves from the air.

Sarah believes in God. That is of course her right, her private right. But when God and Guns come together in the public sector, when war is declared in God's name, when the rights of women are denied in his name, that is the end of separation of church and state and the undoing of everything America has ever tried to be.

I write to my sisters. I write because I believe we hold this election in our hands. This vote is a vote that will determine the future not just of the U.S., but of the planet. It will determine whether we create policies to save the earth or make it forever uninhabitable for humans. It will determine whether we move towards dialogue and diplomacy in the world or whether we escalate violence through invasion, undermining and attack. It will determine whether we go for oil, strip mining, coal burning or invest our money in alternatives that will free us from dependency and destruction. It will determine if money gets spent on education and healthcare or whether we build more and more methods of killing. It will determine whether America is a free open tolerant society or a closed place of fear, fundamentalism and aggression.

If the Polar Bears don't move you to go and do everything in your power to get Obama elected then consider the chant that filled the hall after Palin spoke at the RNC, "Drill Drill Drill." I think of teeth when I think of drills. I think of rape. I think of destruction. I think of domination. I think of military exercises that force mindless repetition, emptying the brain of analysis, doubt, ambiguity or dissent. I think of pain.

Do we want a future of drilling? More holes in the ozone, in the floor of the sea, more holes in our thinking, in the trust between nations and peoples, more holes in the fabric of this precious thing we call life?

Week 1: done

I finally finished week one today. a bit over one week but there were setbacks.
mostly rain, sinus sickness and finding a dying crow on day 2. that really turned me off the whole idea of running for a few days. And resulted in me making cupcakes to cheer myself up. It was bad times.

I'm trying not to be my usual realistic (read: cynical) self but I don't see this getting easier and I don't see myself improving without outside assistance.

Meaning, I don't think I will get better at running by just running.
So now I am going to add some yoga and possibly some Carmen into the mix.
It's been a while since I've busted out my striptease moves and I miss it.

If my wife were to visit tomorrow, I wouldn't be able to go dancing because I am so out of the fitness loop. That depresses the shit out of me. So I think by adding some other workouts into this running plan, things might perk up. And hopefully my new set work schedule kicks into effect next week and I will have plenty of time to do it.

I am going to look at my life as soccer camp from now until November. I have to get up at a certain time and check off a list of things before the day is out, no matter what. Or I'm fired. From my life.

No one wants that. Even I'm not that jaded yet.

day one of C25K = done!

it was hard, but not as hard as I thought it would be. I didn't even feel it really until my last minute of running. I'm sure day 2 will be hell and day 3 will be worse.

However, I'm sure by week 3 that I won't even notice anymore.

I am going to keep a log just so I can look back on my progress. and because it holds me accountable for actually getting off my ass and running. I need more energy and just better health all around. Running seems to do the trick. My end date is election day, in exactly 8 weeks. New president, new healthy running habit and (hopefully) a better bill of health as well.

now you may be asking yourself, did this nutcracker WAKE UP for a 6am run?!
if you know me, you know I didn't.

I couldn't sleep so I just stayed up all night. 6am is an ideal run time though. so now I might have to wake up for them. either that or do a midnight run. we'll have to see.

now let's see how well this run fairs after an 8 hour shift of retail hell. :o\

maybe I didn't think this through....

Just to check in.
kismet. connection. everything's not lost.

dreams of brothers and heads in laps last night. stories about girlfriends and music and childhood.
plagued with dreams of you
less fantasy this time
we want our film to be beautiful not realistic

but that's not what's keeping me awake tonight
something is ruined in me
To see a worm in your dream, represents weakness and general negativity. You have a very low opinion of yourself or of someone in your life.
To dream that something is rotten, suggests that you are wasting away your potential. You have failed to make use of the opportunities that have come your way.
To dream that food has spoiled, indicates that you are not taking care of your emotional needs.

decisions, decisions.
ones made and some not yet
phone calls and plane rides

but still no sleep
still wicked never rested
new pills, same ills
nothing is ever really cured
we never changed
now the drugs don't work they just make you worse but i know i'll see your face again

but will I?
I used to think that's what I wanted. now i'm not so sure.
Now I know I know nothing
but I think I can learn some things

I just wish you would talk to me
or tell me why you won't

Well there was a time when you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show that to me, do you?
I remember when I moved in you
And the Holy Dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was hallelujah

Maybe there is a God above
But all I've ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you
And it's not a cry that you hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah

Hallelujah, hallelujah
